Description
Naturally sweet, fudgy Orange Chocolate Date Truffles made with Medjool dates, cocoa powder, and fresh orange zest. No baking required, ready in minutes, and perfect for healthy snacking or gifting.
Ingredients
1 cup packed Medjool dates, pitted (about 160 g)
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (25 g)
1 tbsp orange zest (from 1 large orange)
1 to 2 tbsp fresh orange juice, as needed (15 to 30 ml)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (2.5 ml)
Pinch fine sea salt
Optional coatings:
Unsweetened cocoa powder
Unsweetened shredded coconut
Finely chopped dark chocolate
Instructions
1. If dates are dry, soak in hot water for 5 minutes. Drain very well and pat dry.
2. Add dates, cocoa powder, orange zest, vanilla, and salt to a food processor.
3. Pulse and blend until the mixture looks crumbly, then continues to process into a sticky dough.
4. Add orange juice 1 tablespoon at a time only if needed, blending after each addition, until the dough clumps and holds together.
5. Scoop about 1 tablespoon per truffle and roll into balls.
6. Roll in cocoa powder, coconut, or chopped dark chocolate if desired.
7. Chill 15 to 20 minutes to set, then serve.
Notes
For best flavor, use fresh orange zest and zest only the bright peel, not the white pith.
If the mix feels too sticky, chill it for 10 minutes before rolling.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days, or freeze up to 3 months.
