About Us

Hey! We’re Flavor & Recipes (And We’re So Glad You’re Here)

Welcome to our corner of the internet where healthy-ish meets absolutely delicious, and where snack hacks are basically an art form!

Our Purpose

You know that moment when you’re standing in your kitchen at 3 PM, hangry and staring into the void of your pantry, desperately trying to create something that won’t make you feel guilty but also won’t taste like cardboard? Yeah, we’ve been there. Like, really been there.

It all started when I (Cloe) was scrolling through social media, seeing all these picture-perfect “clean eating” posts that made me feel like I needed a PhD in nutrition just to make a decent snack. I remember thinking, “Why can’t healthy food just be… fun?” That’s when I started experimenting with what I call “healthy-ish” – real food that tastes amazing, uses ingredients you can actually pronounce, and doesn’t require you to remortgage your house to afford.

Our Mission

Every single day, I’m in my kitchen (fair warning: it’s usually a beautiful disaster) testing recipes that real people with real lives can actually make. We’re talking about the kind of snacks that make your kids stop asking “what’s for dinner” and start asking “can we have that again?” The kind of recipes that work whether you’re a college student with a hot plate or a busy parent juggling seventeen different things.

We create content for the person who wants to eat well but doesn’t want to spend their entire weekend meal prepping, who loves flavor but also wants to feel good about what they’re putting in their body. Because honestly? Life’s too short for bland food, and it’s also too short to spend hours making something that should take minutes.

Our Vision

Picture this: your kitchen becomes your favorite room in the house (not just because that’s where the coffee maker lives). You open your pantry and actually get excited about the possibilities instead of ordering takeout for the third time this week. Your friends start asking YOU for recipe recommendations because they know you’ve got the good stuff.

We’re working toward a world where “healthy-ish” isn’t a compromise – it’s an upgrade. Where viral recipes aren’t just pretty to look at, but actually taste incredible and make you feel amazing. Where snack time becomes the highlight of your day, not something you feel guilty about later.

Our Core Values

  • Real Ingredients, Real Life: If I can’t find it at my regular grocery store without taking out a second mortgage, we’re not using it. Our recipes work with everyday ingredients that don’t require a treasure hunt through three specialty stores.
  • Flavor First, Always: Healthy food that tastes like punishment isn’t doing anyone any favors. Every single recipe has to pass what I call “the Saturday afternoon test” – would I actually crave this on a lazy weekend?
  • Honest About the Process: We’ll tell you when something takes longer than expected, when a hack doesn’t work for everyone, and when we totally burned something the first (okay, third) time we tried it. Because learning from our kitchen disasters saves you from yours.
  • Healthy-ish Is Enough: Perfect is the enemy of good, and we’re here for the good. Our recipes are about progress, not perfection – they’re healthier than what you might grab otherwise, and that’s what matters.
  • Community Over Competition: Your success in the kitchen is our success. We celebrate every win, troubleshoot every flop, and learn from each other because that’s how we all get better.

Chloe Harper, Chicago-based recipe creator and food blogger behind Flavor and Recipes

Hi there! I’m the face behind all these kitchen experiments, and honestly? I never thought I’d be the person giving food advice. Five years ago, I was the queen of 3 AM cereal dinners and thinking that adding spinach to a smoothie made it a vegetable serving (spoiler alert: sort of, but not really).

My “aha moment” came during what I now call “The Great Pantry Cleanout of 2019.” I was staring at a cabinet full of expensive superfoods I’d bought with the best intentions but never used, while simultaneously ordering pizza because I “had nothing to eat.” That’s when I realized that healthy eating isn’t about having the perfect ingredients – it’s about making the most of what you actually have and will realistically use.

Since then, I’ve tested over 500 recipes (yes, I keep track – my friends think I’m slightly obsessed), collaborated with nutritionists to make sure our “healthy-ish” actually means something, and built a community of over 50,000 people who love food that tastes as good as it makes you feel. I’ve also learned that sharing the failures is just as important as sharing the successes, because that’s how we all improve together.

You can reach me directly at: [email protected] – I personally read every email, though fair warning: if you send me a recipe suggestion, there’s a 99% chance I’m going to try it immediately!

How We Actually Do This Work

Here’s the behind-the-scenes truth: our kitchen looks like a science lab most days. Every recipe goes through what we call “the gauntlet” – it has to work for busy weeknights, use ingredients that don’t break the bank, survive the chaos of real life (like when you realize you’re out of eggs halfway through), and most importantly, taste so good that you actually want to make it again.

We test everything at least three times, often more when things go hilariously wrong (looking at you, chickpea cookie experiment that shall not be named). We also work with registered dietitians to make sure our nutrition information is accurate, and we’re constantly researching food trends to see what’s actually worth trying versus what’s just pretty for Instagram.

Why Trust Us? (Fair Question!)

Look, we’re not going to claim we’re perfect. But here’s what we can promise: every recipe on this site has been tested in a real kitchen by a real person who has burned more things than she cares to admit. Our community of readers regularly sends us photos of their attempts (both successes and beautiful disasters), and their feedback shapes everything we create.

We’ve been featured in several food blogs for our practical approach to healthy eating, and our viral TikTok series “Snack Hacks That Actually Work” has helped thousands of people fall back in love with their kitchens. But honestly? The best testament to our work is the messages we get from people saying they actually look forward to cooking now, or that their kids asked for seconds on vegetables.

Our Community (That’s You!)

You’re not just readers to us – you’re recipe testing partners, fellow kitchen experimenters, and the reason we keep trying new things. Some of our best content comes from your questions, your modifications to our recipes, and yes, even your spectacular failures (shared with permission, of course).

Whether you’re here because you saw one of our videos go viral, a friend shared a recipe that actually worked, or you’re just tired of bland “healthy” food, you’re part of something bigger. We’re all figuring this out together, one delicious experiment at a time.

Our Promise to You

We promise to keep it real, keep it tasty, and keep it accessible. Every recipe gets tested multiple times before we share it. Every nutrition fact gets checked. When we mess up (and we will), we’ll tell you. When something doesn’t work for everyone, we’ll troubleshoot with you. And when we discover something amazing, we’ll share it immediately because good food is meant to be shared.

We also promise to never gate-keep ingredients or techniques. If there’s a simpler way to do something, we’ll tell you. If an expensive ingredient has a cheaper substitute that works just as well, you’ll be the first to know.
